Town of Wawayanda is Hiring a Part-time Bookkeeper Near Slate Hill, NY

Part-Time Bookkeeper to be assistant to current Bookkeeper. Knowledge of Fund Accounting Preferred.

Possible Responsibilities:
- Maintain and operates a complete set of general books including subsidiary ledgers in accordance with a prescribed system of accounts;
- Classifies a variety of receipts and expenditures and distributes items to proper accounts;
- Makes adjustments in accounts;
- Takes trial balances, closes and balances books;
- Sets up appropriate accounts;
- Reconciles bank statements;
- Prepares financial data for periodic reports;
- Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
- Proficient in Excel

Experience:
- Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or in a similar role
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices
- Familiarity with account reconciliation processes
- Ability to analyze financial data and prepare accurate reports
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills

Minimum Qualifications: Either:

  • Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associate's degree or higher in Accounting, Bookkeeping, or closely related field; or
  • Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two (2) years of experience in classifying and recording financial data using double-entry accounting procedures.

Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics: Good knowledge of the principles and practices used in single and double entry bookkeeping; good knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment; good knowledge of business arithmetic and English; ability to make accurate computations; ability to write legibly; clerical aptitude; good judgement; neatness; tact and courtesy; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

As a Bookkeeper, you will play a vital role in maintaining accurate financial records for our company. You will be responsible for receivable transactions, preparing financial statements, performing bank reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with GAAP. Additionally, your attention to detail and proficiency in using accounting software will be essential in carrying out your responsibilities effectively. Town Hall hours are Monday thru Friday 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Pay: From $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 20 per week
